Knowing Quality in Wedding Fashion: What to Look for in a Wedding Gown

Beautiful photos by Brian Schutza Photography

If you’re beginning your search for the perfect wedding gown, but you aren’t sure what exactly to look for in a dress, these are some basic elements that can help you understand the quality of a gown. With custom gowns there is a different attention to detail and quality that can give you a good understanding of what is absolutely essential to feel like the price you pay matches the experience you have with your dress. From correct fit, to fabric quality, it can feel overwhelming to approach these milestone garments without a guide. The NK Bride team is here to support you, and give you the absolute best experience, tailored to fit you, and your wedding day dream.

Structure and support are obvious elements that women search for in every garment they purchase, and brides will have high expectations for the structure and construction of their dress. For us, this starts at the very beginning. The quality of our construction is elevated due to the design we create with you, and the patterns we use that are modeled to fit your body. Our pattern making process is just the beginning in ensuring that the finished product speaks for itself in quality and elegance. We want our dresses to compliment how lovely you look, and a beautiful bride needs a dress that supports her.

When shopping for a dress attention to detail is important. But it is even more important that your dress is made with the utmost attention to detail. Whether its pressing down seams, or measuring precisely, it is the little things that we do at NK Bride that make the greatest difference between custom couture, and a dress at just any store. Paying close attention to clipped threads, seam allowance, clean stitching, and perfect edges makes an average dress a spectacular one. When looking at dresses don’t forget to examine the inside. A one-of-a-kind, handmade dress will outshine any other from even the smallest detail.

Feeling comfortable in a dress has a lot to do with how well the dress is designed for you. Brides should have the support they need in a dress to look stunning in photos, and then dance through the night. At NK Bride, the support is built into the dress to hold you in all night long, and to be your most comfortable. We use a flexible and strong material to bone corsets, and support. It is also important to us to help you feel your best, so many of our brides will need or want a bra built in. Adding underwire, and support gives brides the comfort they’re searching for, without the stress of undergarment shopping. If you’re looking for a high quality look and fit, considering how the dress is designed to support you will help. If a dress doesn’t help you feel better, it will not look or feel luxurious on the big day.

It is hard to argue that the most important element of choosing a wedding gown is the perfect fit. If you are like most women, the sample size is never going to be a perfect fit, which is why we believe a true, high quality gown is made for your unique size. We use your measurements to develop a padded form that is your size. From here we drape and pattern to fit you. With a custom gown, there is a process of fittings where you can ensure the fit is perfect for you, and make any changes you may want, or need. The perfect fit can be very hard to find, but a quality dress will have the ability to fit you, no matter what body type, in all the best ways.

Finishing touches are always important. Similar to attention to details, the finishing elements can show the important handwork that went into a gown. Although details in construction maybe perfect, the small touches of trim, or elegant hand work makes the dress next level. There is a couture element to hand sewn trims and details that results in a higher quality gown. Hand stitching is easier to hide, and gives a softer, more elegant look to any appliqué. A high quality gown with have a look more natural and smooth, and the machine-like tendencies will not be present in the final presentation.

The wedding dress experience is expected to be full of emotions, but when you think about your wedding gown, we want those emotions to be all good. These details can provide you with all the help you need in determining which dress is the best for you. Custom doesn’t have to be expensive, but it most certainly will look and feel like a higher quality gown. If you’re interested in how NK Bride can design with you, and for you we would love to hear from you.
